LEADVILLE TRAIL 100 MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE "THE RACE ACROSS THE SKY" AUGUST 2009
This race always has a rally type meeting the day before the race; this is all the people gathered into this really old gymnasium. We are actually behind some bleachers just waiting for the rally to begin, and hoping to catch a peek at Lance. No Lance but Dave Wiens talked and he was great. At the awards assembly the day after the race Lance showed up and spoke. It was fun watching Lance race and to see him in person. Cody loved it!
Dusty at the start of the race-he's wearing his game face.
Dusty crossing the finish line at 10:01. Over 1500 bikers and he finished in the 300's!
Lance Armstrong has competed in this race for the last two years. Last year he took 2nd place behind Dave Wiens who has won it 6 times. This is the starting line #2 in the black jersey that says Johnny's Bikes is Lance. #82 in blue is his trainer Carmichael - who by the way Dusty beat him, and Carmichael came up and shook Dusty's hand and told him good job! The bike with #1 on it is Dave Wiens who is a super nice guy - a family guy; he took second this year. Lance won the race setting a new record for the course in 6 1/2 hours - unheard of!
Brad and Dusty competed in Leadville for the first time August 2006. This is them together right before the start of that race!
Dusty and Brad have both competed in the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race. The first time that Dusty and Brad competed in the race was August 2006. This race is held in Leadville, Colorado, which is a very small mining town. The 100-mile course is a 50-mile out and back race within the beautiful, high altitude moutains and valleys of Leadville, Colorado. The majority is on back-country roads with some short sections of paved road. The entire course is above 9,000 ft. And climbs to almost 13,000 ft. So this past August of 2009 Dusty signs up to compete in the race. When he calls to make room reservations there is only one hotel room available. The room goes for over $100 a night. We pull up to the hotel and about die. The following pictures are of the hotel. The room is actually tilted-it felt like the old fun house attraction at Lagoon "The Tilt Room!" We were scared to sleep in the room, but there was nothing else available in town, and there was a no refund policy as well. Dusty had to pay for the room up front and no refunds - we know why they have that policy now!
LAKE POWELL SUMMER 2009
Andie had to be coaxed off the back of the houseboat; but she made an amazing entrance into the water once she finally went off. Cody of course is in the water calling her!
Dusty, Julie and Charlie enjoying the water!

Went to Lake Powell with the Christiansen family June 17-20, 2009. All of our children except our Irish missionary joined the fun, also Jer and Ames brought their good friends from dental school Chad and Naomi Wolff. We had a variety of weather, but how can you have a bad time at Lake Powell? We all gained weight, laughed really hard, many of the brave have sore muscles and of course we all have some color to our skin. Chris was the fashion icon of the trip with his light blue “Snuggie!” Doc’s Orders can still throw a great party along with the spiders. There was some mean card games going and some great friendships started namely Chris and Jerame and of course Cody and Pete they are all bff’s! A tradition that has gone on for about 10 years and will continue until Doc’s Orders is out of commission. Andie finally learned how to handle the stairs of the houseboat!
